Full Bio

STEVE BARKLEY is internationally recognized for his ability to facilitate change. He has more than 35 years of experience working in classrooms, schools and universities building teacher capacity for heightened student success and is well-known for guiding school improvement through coaching, mentoring and professional development.

Last year alone, Mr Barkley worked with teachers and administrators in approximately 100 school districts and organizations, in 17 states and 12 countries.

He has worked with teachers at the International School Basel in Switzerland, the International Schools Group in Saudi Arabia, Phorms Education SE in Berlin, Haut-Lac Bilingual International School in Switzerland, ACS International Schools in London and Doha, QSI International School of Chengdu, and the Swiss International Schools Group.

Mr Barkley has presented at a variety of international conferences including the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), the Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS), AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Education), and NESA. His dynamic energy and captivating style translate his extraordinary knowledge about life in the classroom and provide the necessary skills for effective change in individual teachers, teams and schools.

Explore how to use peer, instructional and administrator coaching to generate teacher learning that impacts student learning. Assess the value of starting or deepening coaching in your practice and your school culture.

Coaching to Deepen Student Learning

Deeper student learning is created by changes in student learning production behaviors: students cause student learning. Teachers as designers create the environment and processes for learners. Coaching supports teacher and student learners.

Examine how to use a backwards design model for planning and implementing continuous improvement in learner outcomes.

The dialogue that occurs in coaching conversations creates the reflection and insights that promote teacher learning to impact student learning. In this session you will identify, observe, and practice communication skills to build your peer, instructional, or administrator coaching effectiveness.
