Chief Learning Officer, National Art Education Association (NAEA).
DENNIS INHULSEN is Chief Learning Officer (CLO) for the National Art Education Association (NAEA). He was an elementary principal and art educator for thirty-five years, and taught art for all ages, pre-school through university.
He is past-president, and past vice-president and convention chair for NAEA. Mr Inhulsen was president of the Michigan Art Education Association (MAEA) in addition to holding many volunteer positions nationally and locally.
Mr Inhulsen is a frequent workshop and school improvement facilitator for art and general education in subjects such as the National Arts Education Standards, Understanding by Design, Thinking Maps in the Classroom, Curriculum Mapping, and Legal Issues for Early Career Teachers.
He served as visual arts writing chair with the National Coalition of Core Art Standards (NCCAS) and is a member of the NCCAS Leadership Team.
Nationals Arts Standards in Action (Curriculum Design with the National Arts Education Standards)
We will learn about the philosophical foundations and framework consisting of Anchor Standards, Enduring Understandings, Essential Questions and Grade by Grade Performance Standards. Questioning Strategies, Authentic Assessments and Unit Planning will be stressed in this active learning and discussion based day.
Experience working with colleagues in “job alike” Professional Learning Teams (PLT’s) as we deconstruct successful units of study, plan new units and share our successes with one another. Be prepared to bring your curriculum maps, notes, lesson plans and your creative juices for refining your craft as an arts educator.

Participants will. . .
. . .learn about the purpose, form and structure of the National Arts Standards. Through interactive lectures, discussion, table-top exercises, and "job-alike" planning sessions participants will experience first-hand how to apply the standards to their unit planning, instruction and assessment to their unique teaching situation.
