FAY GORE, M.A. has been a social studies educator for over 19 years. She currently serves as the Program Director for K-12 Social Studies at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). In this role she helps to set the vision for social studies in the state, develops the state’s social studies standards, assists districts and schools with developing their local curriculum frameworks, provides professional learning opportunities, and advises the NC State Board of Education on policy matters.
Her previous positions include: high school social studies teacher, assessment consultant with NC State University, and middle school education consultant. Ms Gore also served as Co-chair of the Editorial Committee for the College, Career & Civic Life C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards published by the National Council for the Social Studies in 2013.
As an independent consultant, Ms Gore has experience working with educators from around the world to transform their social studies programs. Her main area of interest is designing and implementing systems and processes that facilitate R.E.A.L. (relevant, engaging, authentic, learner-centered) curriculum and instructional design that leads to high quality teaching and hands-on, minds-on learning for students.
