Using Authentic Assessment and Developmental Continuums to Guide Your Teaching of Literacy
This two-day workshop will introduce you to Bonnie Campbell Hill’s work on Assessment and Developmental Continuums. During Day 1 we will explore authentic assessment tools such as anecdotal notes, writing samples, and the DRA and how the data collected can guide your instruction. Day 2 will be spent learning how to use the developmental continuums in reading and writing. We will focus on stages of the continuum, marking the continuum and how to share and report to parents and colleagues.
Prerequisites: Participants need no prior knowledge. They will need to download and print out handouts from the website prior to attending the institute. You may bring copies of Bonnie Campbell Hill’s books on Assessment and Developmental Continuums, if your school has purchased them. If not, it is not necessary to have before the workshop.
Outcomes: Participants will have information and knowledge of:
• authentic assessment practices.
• use of Developmental Continuums.
Target Audience: K-5 teachers in schools that are using the DRA, teacher notebooks and BCH’s Developmental Continuums. This workshop is designed to provide staff-development for new teachers in these schools who may not have had a chance to attend one of Bonnie Campbell Hill’s two-day workshops.
Level: Overview (Introductory) and Level 1 (Beginner)
