Techniques and Strategies for Working with Students with Mild Learning Difficulties in International Schools


Description: Teaching students with mild learning and/or academic difficulties in the regular classroom will be discussed. Techniques and strategies for organization of support instruction, instructional best practices, differentiated instruction and identification of learning styles strategies will be presented. Demonstration of various techniques will be used in the presentation. Teachers will be actively involved in identifying “the issues” and in brainstorming creative solutions to helping students with mild learning difficulties.

Outcomes: Participants will have information and knowledge of: 
•    Best practices
•    Specific strategies and techniques of instruction
•    Models of implementation
•    Differentiation and learning style techniques

Level: Overview

ANN ERLER was a professional educator in Fairfax Virginia for 30 years. She worked as teacher, special education administrator, elementary principal, coordinator of instructional hiring, and implemented workshops and university courses in leadership training for staff development of teachers. Her career included teaching for local universities (Marymount University, Virginia Tech and University of Virginia) as an adjunct professor. Ms Erler’s experience with international schools spans over the last 14 years. She has visited over 13 different international schools as a consultant in Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. She received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and her graduate degree from The University of Virginia. <annerler@aol.com>
