Delegates from throughout the region convened at the Cairo Conrad Hotel in Egypt, for the 2009 Spring Educators Conference, April 4-7. Over 600 educators of all grades and disciplines enjoyed the three and a half-day conference, featuring keynotes, half-day institutes and teacher-produced workshops on the banks of the historic River Nile.

This two-day specialty conference is designed around a variety of topics of interest to specialists. This year focused on several subjects with a wide professional appeal, and took place on the campus of The American School of Doha in Qatar, January 30-31, 2009. After an opening plenary session on the first morning each speaker briefly highlighted the goals of his/her institute.

ACS Beirut at the NESA Spring Educators Conference, Cairo

NESA held its annual Spring Educators Conference in Cairo, Egypt, from April 4 -7, 2009. Fourteen faculty members represented ACS-Beirut at this international event: Summer Charara and Roula Haddad co-presented a workshop on ‘Classroom Environment According to the Reggio Emilia Philosophy’; Rima Rahawi presented her workshop on ‘International Line Dancing’; Maysa Boubess, Hind Zahr, Susan Hoballah, Layla Shatila, Lina El-Hert, Thomas Moore, Robert Geary, Carine Hage, Beverly Boke, Nermeen Sakkal, and Caroline Hamadeh had the opportunity to attend the conference, which was, in their opinion, a great and enriching learning experience.

“Raucous crowds cheered and chanted. The beats of a make-shift derbakkeh were even heard…contrary to what this may call to mind, this was not a soccer or basketball match. This was the EMAC debate finals, watched by students and faculty members from four different schools in the Middle East, ACS Beirut, ACS Amman, ASD Doha, and DAA Dubai,” reports Timmy Malkoun, a senior at ACS.
