The NESA Team

Supporting the NESA community with purpose and a personal touch.

NESA's Executive Director and the NESA team work in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees, the Professional Development Advisory Committee (PDAC), and the Wider Circle to design and deliver NESA’s signature professional learning experiences.  Based at the NESA Center in Athens, on the campus of the American College of Greece, this small, dedicated team supports our community with care and professionalism – that famous “NESA spirit”.

Executive Director

Madeleine (“Maddy”) Hewitt has served as NESA’s Executive Director since 2017, bringing decades of leadership experience in international schools worldwide, including deep roots in the NESA region. A founding member and former Director of The KAUST School in Saudi Arabia, she has also held leadership roles at schools in Tanzania, Taiwan, Egypt, and South Africa. Maddy holds a BA in English Literature from Mount Holyoke College and an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is passionate about transformative leadership, regenerative school design, and keeping student learning and well-being at the center of all we do.
