How can we unleash the potential of all students by supporting them to do beautiful work?
We vastly underestimate the potential of students to do beautiful work—complex and sophisticated work across all disciplines— work that contributes to the world. When schools take this on as central to their mission, the results are profound: it ignites positive spirit and culture, engagement and motivation, and stronger academic skills and resilience.
We will look at examples of student work that set a new bar for what is possible and examine the conditions and practices that made that work possible.
Believing and supporting the potential of all students to succeed with challenging work has never been more important. As we rebuild from the damage of the pandemic and work to address historic inequities created by racism and income disparity, we must resist the urge to label students by their deficits. Instead, we can address unfinished learning at the same time as we accelerate learning and provide opportunities for excellence.
