Culturally Inclusive SEL: Integrating the CASEL Framework in International Schools

Many international schools have invested in SEL programs and curriculum only to find that the material is too American for their culturally diverse context. The CASEL Framework is different from these programs in that it is explicitly designed for schools to integrate it into unique school contexts.

This pre-conference workshop will equip educators with the knowledge, strategies and tools needed to foster culturally inclusive SEL in their international settings.

Participants will explore ways in which the CASEL Framework can facilitate the celebration of diverse cultural backgrounds, improve student engagement, cultivate climates of belonging, and enhance the SEL skills of the adults in our students’ lives.

CONNECT & ENGAGE

Participants will have an opportunity to learn from one another and share what is working in their SEL implementation and what are the major challenges. They will have an opportunity to exchange strategies to better adapt their program to the international context. Participants will also have a chance to connect with the student experience to provide additional feedback.

LEARN

We will explore international SEL models and implementation science frameworks that will allow schools to ensure their SEL work is both aligned with CASEL and culturally relevant for their key stakeholders. We explore real examples of what this work looks like in the field.

REFLECT & APPLY

Participants will have the opportunity to apply these models to their own SEL work, allowing them to leave with clear plans and next steps for SEL implementation improvement.
