Addressing Global Citizenship and the World's Greatest Needs
In this interactive workshop facilitated by Inspire Citizens, participants will evaluate and deeply connect with the world's greatest needs, while aligning their curricular targets, disciplinary literacy goals, content objectives, and subject-area standards to this inspired purpose.
They will engage in intrinsically motivating reflections regarding how to develop global citizens. In relation to existing unit plans, educators will discuss and explore new pedagogies and practices, and by the end of the institute, they will be equipped with new resources and practical tools, and will have integrated modern pedagogies into their lesson designs.
Participants will depart with a significantly enhanced unit plan ready for implementation. This workshop will foster connections among educators, and encourage mutual learning and support for excellent daily practices that help shape the future through embedding themes of Global Citizenship, Service, Sustainability, and DEI.
Note: A laptop is required for these sessions.
CONNECT & ENGAGE
Participants will begin the journey by exploring their vocation and purpose as educators, will explore resources to unpack the world's greatest needs, and will unpack their curricular learning goals to find seamless ways to embed a great 'why and what now' into existing curricular structures.
This process will be guided by the Inspire Citizens' Empathy to Impact Approach: a proven and effective method for embedding global citizenship, service, sustainability, and DEI into our teaching and learning.
LEARN
Participants will continue the journey by moving from an Empathy to Impact snapshot to adapting their existing unit plans by engaging with new pedagogies and back-mapping from action using a UBD planning approach. Educators will ideate together, provide feedback to one another, and will use our gifts to inspire deeper action in each other's classrooms.
REFLECT & APPLY
Participants will complete the journey by applying the feedback to their unit plan, developing the daily resources, rubrics, and other Stage 3 learning artifacts to ensure that the unit is ready to teach. Participants will share their finished products in a celebration of learning with one another and will close by preparing for implementation and preparing for widespread impact in their schools.
