Whether teaching Arabic for speakers of the language, heritage learners, or non-speakers of the language, the following elements are necessary for any instructional design to ensure impactful learning of the Arabic language: language input and output, guided and independent practices, and formative feedback.
In this institute, we will unpack these elements and study their impact on language acquisition. Together, we will design lesson plans using these necessary elements. Throughout the three days, we will develop learning experiences for the multiple profiles of learners in the Arabic class. We will study, analyze, and assess the impact of those experiences on increasing students’ proficiency.
On the first day of the Institute, participants will take part in classroom observations hosted by Arabic teachers at ACS Abu Dhabi. In collaborative teams, participants will engage in a guided lesson study. They will observe, inquire, learn, and provide feedback. The goal is to learn together, and observe the theory in action.
