The big question about AI has been: What impact will it actually have on schools? Not the speculative impact – the real, on the ground impact. Over the course of the 2023-2024 school year, the entire AISC community engaged in strategic “tinkering” to understand the answer to this question in our specific context.
In this session, I’ll share the structure of our community inquiry around AI, and the ways that AI allowed us to reflect on community surveys and feedback, intercultural competence, curriculum development, teaching and learning, professional learning, and strategic planning.
I will share the resulting white paper that our AI Task Force members published, as well as the commitments that we made as a school attempting to be agile as we move through the potential futures we face.
The story I have to share is a blend of skepticism, optimism, pessimism, thrilling success, ongoing gnarly challenge, strategy, and ultimately how emerging machine intelligence has highlighted why human beings are, and must remain, at the center of our thinking and practice.
