Leadership at all levels of school is an awesome responsibility. It is a complex and daunting practice. It is also a practice full of wonder, possibility, and the opportunity to make an impact. Therefore, it is a practice that requires leaders to balance multiple constituencies, understand human and group dynamics, and navigate organizational politics.
These leadership competencies are often underdeveloped or missing from leadership programs. Yet research suggests that leading in schools now requires advanced skills in conflict. This is our leadership growth edge: to deepen the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to develop these political capacities of school leaders and educators.
How might leaders develop this leadership capacity? How might acknowledging the awe of it all assist us in our growth? During this keynote, we will explore Listening Leadership – a repertoire of artful strategies, tactics, and ways of sensing and adapting useful for educators and leaders at all levels in a school. We will focus on ways to grow your listening repertoire, especially as you lead and educate amid conflict. Because this is an engagement keynote, you will have opportunities to practice listening strategies during the session. You might even find yourself growing in awe of the possibilities.
