SUMMIT FAQ

WHAT IS THIS NEW SUMMIT?

Next year, NESA is reimagining professional learning by merging two powerful events – the Learning Futures Summit and the Compassion Summit  – into one shared experience: the NESA 2026 Learning Futures Summit: Compassion in Action.

This event is a unique professional learning experience where educators and students come together for deep, cross-generational collaboration. Through shared sessions and time for focused, purposeful learning within each group, participants will engage in enriching and personally transformative learning that fosters leadership, innovation, and global impact.

WHAT ANCHORS THE LEARNING?

The Summit is founded on three core pillars:

INNOVATION IN EDUCATION

Educators explore and apply future-ready tools and pedagogies.

COMPASSION & AGENCY

Students take action and lead initiatives that impact their communities.

INTERGENERATIONAL COLLABORATION

Shared learning and joint problem-solving between students and educators.

WHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?

Over three days in a shared learning environment, students and educators will collaborate – together and separately – on practical, real-world challenges. The experience includes:

KEYNOTES & PLENARY SESSIONS
EDUCATOR & STUDENT WORKSHOPS
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS & PROBLEM-SOLVING

PLUS educator-led Sharing the Journey workshops and social events.

IS IT FOR YOU?

The Summit is designed for:

Educators

Teachers and school leaders participate as learners. Explore future-focused pedagogies, collaborate with students, and consider new ways to integrate student agency into their teaching practices.

Students

Grades 7–12 (Years 8–13) from NESA region schools and beyond will contribute their voices, take on leadership roles, and co-create solutions for real-world challenges alongside educators.

Educator chaperones will accompany and support students by facilitating engagement and providing guidance during sessions, and ensure a safe learning environment as well as the after-hour welfare of the students from their school.

WHICH EDUCATORS WILL BENEFIT MOST?

Classroom Teachers

Looking for future-ready practices and student-led strategies.

Instructional Leaders

Exploring innovative pedagogies and supporting instructional growth.

Specialists & Support Staff

Driving student well-being and holistic learning across the school.

HOW WILL YOU ENGAGE?

This Summit is designed to engage both students and educators in powerful, purposeful learning. Participants will collaborate and contribute in different ways – together and in their own learning spaces.

Educators will …

Engage in future-ready pedagogies, collaborate with students, and participate in innovative workshops designed to enrich their professional growth and classroom impact.

Students will …

Design and lead future-focused sessions, collaborate with educators, reflect with peers, and develop leadership skills to drive change in their communities.

Together

Intergenerational sessions bring students and educators into meaningful dialogue and collaborative problem-solving to enhance learning for all.

Separately

Targeted workshops meet the distinct learning needs of each group – educator professional growth and student leadership development.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The summit aims to achieve the following outcomes and learning goals:

  • Foster Inquiry-Based Learning: Encourage participants to engage in critical questioning and exploration, promoting a culture of curiosity and continuous learning.
  • Promote Compassion and Empathy: Through shared narratives and dialogues, attendees will develop a deeper understanding of diverse and developmental perspectives, enhancing empathy across generations.
  • Ignite Changemakers: Equip participants with the tools and inspiration to initiate positive social change within their communities. The summit will highlight the importance of youth-adult partnerships in fostering agency and innovation, and highlight participants stories to date and futures work (Stories that will continue).
  • Encourage Action-Oriented Projects: Provide a platform for attendees to design and implement projects addressing real-world challenges, thereby applying learned concepts to tangible outcomes. This approach aligns with initiatives that drive innovation through project-based learning..
  • Facilitate Intergenerational Dialogue: Create spaces for meaningful conversations between different age groups, challenging myths and stereotypes about learning, while developing individual and collective learning stories that foster positive results and lifelong learning practices.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Bringing students and educators together creates an innovative space for meaningful dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and shared growth – amplifying the impact on both groups across the region.

Our aim is to empower students and educators as global changemakers and to:

Drive change

Equip participants with the skills and knowledge to make meaningful impact in their schools and communities.
