Media Literacy: Copyright Clarity
Many people have misunderstandings about copyright law and its application to teaching, learning and multimedia creativity. This professional development workshop gives participants a deeper understanding of how copyright and fair use applies to digital learning. Yes, you (and your students) can use copyrighted materials for teaching and learning! You can bring copyright clarity to your library, school and community by participating in this train-the-trainers program.
In this two-day institute, participants will reflect upon the importance of copyright and fair use for digital learning and digital literacy. Gain knowledge about U.S. copyright law as it relates to the most common instructional practices in digital literacy. Participants will apply the concept of transformative use to your own uses of media and technology in the library or classroom.
Participants will gain confidence in making a fair use determination and learn how to integrate fair use reasoning into teacher and student media production activities. They will learn instructional strategies for teaching students of any age about copyright and fair use.
Finally, participants will increase their ability to advocate for the fair use of copyrighted materials in digital literacy and develop an increased understanding of how copyright law changes in response to changes in technology, society and culture.
Take responsibility for clearing up copyright confusion by participating in this eye-opening, engaging and fun workshop offered by one of the leading media literacy educators in the world.
