HOSSAM EL SHAFFEI is active promoting and developing the oversight profession. He serves on the FIFA/CAF Reform Task Force, on the Board of Trustees of the Internal Audit Foundation at The Global Institute of Internal Auditors, IIA, as Board Chair of the Higher Education Committee at the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and on the ACFE Advisory Council.

Mr El Shaffei started his career working for the largest USAID in Egypt as the Chief of Accounts, and then served as the Financial Controller and Director of Personnel Services at Cairo American College in Egypt. He then moved to the UN where he retired in April 2017 after a long career that included Chief Field Finance at the Headquarters in Rome, Head of the Regional Finance and Administrative Office for the South America Region for the UN World Food Programme, and Senior Auditor (audit, inspection and investigation) with the UN Relief and Works Agency.


Currently, he is the Founder and Managing Director of OverSight Consulting & Training (Al Rusd Al Hadith) and Partner at RSM Consulting and Financial Process, Egypt, leading the Risk Advisory Services. He also serves as the Chief Audit Executive Consultant at Segura Consulting, LLC, and SME at AoN.

Mr El Shaffei is the founder, former president, former Board Member and Chair of the Training Committee at the IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors), Jordan Chapter. He is an Internal Audit Quality Assurance Reviewer with IIA Global, a judge for the IIA Magazine Scholarship, and was a member of the IIA Global Board Committee on Academic Relations. He was the first to develop and conduct Webinars on IIA Global Guidance in Arabic for the Middle East.

An authorized CFE Exam Review Course Instructor, Mr El Shaffei founded the ACFE Chapters in Egypt and Jordan, and is President and Chairman of the Board of ACFE Egypt and Vice Chairman of the Board of ACFE Jordan.

He also served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees at the American Community Association K-12 Education.

Fraud in general poses a tremendous threat to organizations of all types and sizes, in all parts of the world. Among the various kinds of fraud that organizations might be faced with, occupational fraud is likely the largest and most prevalent threat. Occupational fraud — fraud committed against the organization by its own officers, directors, or employees — constitutes an attack against the organization from within, by the very people who were entrusted to protect its assets and resources.

On Friday, October 25, after the morning keynote presentation, Business Managers are invited to take advantage of the many other professional development opportunities offered in order to mix with other delegates and experience other workshops in the wider context of the NESA Fall Leadership Conference, adding to their training a good blend of other relevant educational topics.

Friday 2:45-3:45pm — An optional Business Managers Job Alike & Sharing session will be held for collaboration, partnership, communication, and the sharing of highlights and tips from recently implemented projects. (Everyone is encouraged to bring something to share.)

On Saturday, October 26, after the morning keynote presentation, Business Managers are invited to attend Laurie Tasharski and Pery Awad's 3-hour workshop, "Safer Hiring Practices: Your role as gatekeepers to climate", 10:30am-2:30pm.
