Getting to Simplicity: Aligning Intention and Attention

This workshop will invite you to see how the quality of your awareness as a leader is connected to the quality of the results you achieve. In this session, we will explore two dimensions of leadership: clarifying purpose and being present. These dimensions can create a place of calm amidst the busyness of our schools, allowing us to find the internal alignment of attention and intention.

This session builds on the concepts we explored during last year’s Principals’ Pre-Conference.*

We will focus on the importance of attitude toward what you are trying to achieve. We will also explore practices that help you “show up” powerfully with your faculty and staff, while finding the place from which you can bring head and heart together in leadership.

The focus will be on application, using role plays, simulations and case studies that reflect the reality of school leadership. (So, come with challenges and situations you would like to explore.)

As part of this session, we will conduct three virtual follow-up sessions designed to problem solve and support participants as they move to application within their schools.

Target Audience: Principals and other school level leaders.

*Prerequisites: Those participants who did not attend the 2017 Pre-Conference will be asked to complete the pre-read from last year’s session:

Positive Psychology starts from understanding how our strengths can be better employed to create a flourishing life--both personally and professionally. Once you have an initial strengths awareness, how can you employ your strengths knowledge to develop the skills that lead to better results?

Engage in activities and develop practices that will help you notice your strengths and the strengths of others and use that noticing in positive and helpful ways. We will engage in strength spotting, daily strength awareness, synergies and collisions, and strengths overuse and underuse.

Prerequisites: Participation in the workshop requires that you first complete the VIA Character Survey of Character Strengths, available for free at https://www.viacharacter.org/www/. Please bring the results of your survey to the workshop.

Target Audience: All FLC attendees.

*Please bring your laptop/tablet to this workshop.
