Larry McIlvain
LARRY McILVAIN has been the Superintendent of ACS Amman since 2009. He attended elementary and middle schools in Peru and Afghanistan as a child and has worked in schools in the Dominican Republic, Russia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
His interest in this particular topic stems from a student in his school who was going through this process and the school was poorly prepared to support and assist. As he investigated what other schools were doing, he found many schools in need or uncertain of what to do and how to balance individual need with community reactions.
This session is intended to be an open dialogue about how and what schools can do when faced with students who may be exploring their identity while tapping into the collective wisdom of the participants.
