CAREY JOHNSON has taught Middle School Science since 1997. Originally from Wisconsin, Ms Johnson has taught in Arizona, Kuwait, Wisconsin and Oman. Currently, she teaches Eighth Grade Science and is the Elementary School Science Coordinator at The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) in Oman.

She has a passion for teaching adolescents, serving as a teacher leader and working collaboratively on curriculum and other school issues. Ms. Johnson has co-facilitated the NGSS Introduction for Educators at the AERO Summer Institute in Virginia for the past four years and has presented at other conferences on various topics throughout her career.

CHRIS CHARNITSKI was a high school life science teacher for 20 years and still identifies as a science teacher. After working in Fairfax County, Virginia, for 10 years – first at R.E. Lee High School and then at Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Technology – Mr Charnitski went overseas to teach Biology, IB Biology, AP Biology, Middle School Science and various other science courses in Ecuador, Myanmar and Oman.

He left the classroom three years ago to work with international schools around the world, helping them understand and implement the transformational Next Generation Science Standards. Mr Charnitski co-facilitates the NGSS Introduction for Educators at the AERO Summer Institute in Virginia. He is a National Board-certified teacher and most recently worked with the non-profit Achieve organization, authors of the NGSS, on their Science Peer Review Panel.
