Gain knowledge and practical advice from human resources management industry experts on how to lead and navigate your school successfully through the process of culture transformation to become an inclusive workplace.

Attend the preconference on October 12 prior to the NESA 2022 Fall Leadership Conference in person (or online), and have the opportunity to gain a SHRM Inclusive Workplace Culture: Leading & Sustaining a Culture of Transformation certificate by attending two additional 4-hour online workshop sessions from the comfort of your home/office on November 8 and 10, 2022.

This course is subsidized by ISS and NESA and therefore offers a low-cost (compared to market price) unique opportunity for senior administrators to interact with SHRM experts and learn how other sectors deal with diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Note: ISS and SHRM will lead a separate two-day HR Professionals Strand at the NESA 2022 Fall Leadership Conference (#FLC22).

ABOUT THE COURSE

Research studies argue that diverse and inclusive workplaces provide a sense of safety and belonging, promote stronger resilience and ability to adapt to change, improve team performance, and promote innovation, motivation and productivity.

Our schools are engaged in creating better policies and discussing ways to improve, learn, and grow better understanding and processes. We have been hearing stories of inequality and exclusion, but the simple act of listening may not be enough to disrupt systems and the status quo. Listening must be paired with systems leaders who actively respond to calls for change. When marginalized people of color share their stories and counternarratives, systems leaders must not only listen, but also engage in dismantling the ecosystem of white supremacy.

This enlightening, scenario-based course will open a window to best practices of equity and inclusion in organizations outside the international education sector. You will discover the characteristics and impact of a comprehensive diversity, equity and inclusion approach, including how to increase diversity and support equity within the structure of your organization.

OBJECTIVES & COMPETENCIES

Learn the knowledge and skills necessary to:

    • Explore techniques to create, maintain, and measure an inclusive workplace through communication, mentorship, hiring practices, executive level support, facilitation, listening, data reporting, and training;
    • Apply strategies that foster inclusion to common workplace situations by addressing implicit bias, making mindful decisions, and reinforcing positive change;
    • Write a plan that identifies next steps for creating an inclusive workplace culture at your organization.
