Creating Conditions – Building Capacity
The modern iteration of school leadership demands an active, instructional leader who can galvanize a staff around forward-thinking, progressive ideas that maximize the success and experience of all students.
In this preconference session, Tom Schimmer will guide leaders through the process of creating the optimal conditions that initiate and sustain the long-term focus on the most promising practices. Using sound assessment practices only as the backdrop, this preconference workshop will guide leaders toward an understanding of what it takes – both personally and professionally – to take any new idea to scale.
To create the conditions, participants will explore why vulnerability can actually be an asset, why balancing the hard and the soft of leadership is critical, and how new ideas naturally progress through an organization. To build capacity, leaders will explore the eight steps for transforming any organization and how to respond to the typical challenges and roadblocks should they arise.
The morning of the preconference will balance both presentation of leadership principles and extended activities and discussions involving both divisional and cross-divisional groupings in order to deepen the collective network of leadership and support. The bulk of the afternoon, after the foundation of capacity building is laid, will focus on expanding the leadership toolbox through an unconference process of peer-to-peer learning where leaders will share and discuss the best of what they do in a variety of important areas.
Through a combination of content, group discussions, and thought-provoking activities, you will come away feeling more confident and comfortable with leading the implementation of any new idea designed to enhance the outcomes for all stakeholders.
