MICHAEL NACHBAR:
Developing Skills and Mindsets for Modern Teaching, Learning, and Leading
What
are the habits of mind, skills, and competencies our students,
teachers, and leaders need to be effective learners and educators in a
networked world? Modern learning and technology has redefined the ways
we engage our students, from the skills we expect them to develop to the
habits of mind we wish for them to exhibit, such as building empathy
and becoming self-directed learners.
In
order to facilitate the development of those skills, teachers need to
employ new strategies in their classrooms. The same is true for school
leaders: to promote and measure the skills teachers need to successfully
develop future-focused student learning skills, school leaders need to
understand, develop, and put to use innovative leadership strategies.
In
this workshop we will explore and tackle a variety of design thinking
challenges that will help you and your community deliberately develop
these competencies and habits of mind. You will identify the
competencies needed by different constituents in your schools, and
develop ways to deliver and measure them.
