Technology in Education Roundtable: What Else? What If? What Now? What’s Next?
How does technology support learning in NESA schools? In this informative and interactive session, edtech leaders from across NESA schools will prepare in advance short presentations, called Pecha Kuchas, to share stories of initiatives and innovations that matter to their communities. Each presentation will illuminate purpose, describe the journey, highlight pitfalls, forecast the future, and offer advice.
Through small group facilitated discussion, we will find commonalities and ponder possibilities, and we will reflect on our new collective insights to surface the wisdom in the room. In small roundtable discussions, we will ask questions that lead us deeper into understanding the journeys, commitments, and unintended and intended consequences of our work.
We’ll conclude with a brainstorming session to determine what we might create together and ways we can convene this group for future collaborations.
Target Audience: EdTech Leaders, Heads of School, Principals, Directors of Learning.
Note: This workshop is planned in coordination with the NESA Ed Tech Leaders Collaborative. See NESA Collaboratives
Continuum Level: 4 = Extending Implementation (reflecting, evaluating, modifying practice, improving skills)

Modern Learners Need Modern Schools
Modern learners need modern schools. In a series of short design sprints and roundtable discussions, we’ll explore the role that plans, path, pace and place play in the learning experiences of students and teachers in modern schools.
In quick rounds of collaborative brainstorming, planning, and prototyping, we’ll investigate:
- Plans. Learners have voice and choice over areas of interest and passion to explore and go deeper. They devise and create their own learning in learning plans and in consultation with guides and advisors.
- Path. Learners drive their own learning, creating a sense of agency and connection to their work and goals.
- Pace. Learners learn at their own pace and time.
- Place. Learners utilize the power of place to learn, at home, online, at school, and everywhere in between. This includes place-based and project-based educational opportunities including internships, apprenticeships, travel-based and immersive experiences, service learning, and online courses and learning experiences.
In part one, we’ll explore ways in which learning innovations are encouraging more student-centered and personalized learning, as students are now themselves designing and driving their own learning experiences.
In part two, we transition to discussing innovations in professional learning, and the new ways teachers are learning, collaborating, and connecting to promote improved student outcomes and in ways that align with teachers’ own professional growth goals.
Participants will go through another quick design sprint focused on place-based education and the use of technology to innovate learning opportunities for teachers to learn at their own pace and place of choice.
We’ll conclude by unpacking the collective wisdom in the room and reflecting on the role learning innovations -- including plan, path, pace, and place -- might play at your school or organization.
Target Audience: EdTech Leaders, Heads of School, Principals, Directors of Learning.
