The Power of "CO": Co-Planning, Co-Teaching and Collaborating for Student Success
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
(Henry Ford, 1923)
Creating and sustaining a powerful co-planning and co-teaching culture requires vision, resources, skills and an action plan for strategic implementation. This two-day institute is designed to provide participants with essential elements, necessary tools, specific methods, and collaboration structures needed for supporting a powerful co-planning/co-teaching framework.
“Co-teaching does not exist solely to bring two teachers together. Co-teaching exists to serve students.” (Potts & Howard, 2011)
Collaborating, co-planning and co-teaching involve complex human interactions that need ongoing support and intentional commitment from all involved. Together, we will explore various approaches and strategies for ensuring:
- Effective communication
- Co-construction of learning opportunities
- Thoughtful co-reflection
- Ongoing analysis and evaluation of co-teaching methods
- Improved student learning
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” (H.E. Luccock, 1925)
Additionally, we will investigate the myths of co-teaching, predict potential pitfalls and provide helpful tools for navigating those blind spots. Whether you are setting up structures for co-teaching, refining, or evaluating your present practices, valuable insight will be gained on the most effective ways to evolve your program and build a healthy culture of collaboration.
Target Audience: Administrators, Co-teaching Partnerships, Teacher Leaders or any educator ready to deepen understanding or initiate implementation of a co-teaching model.
