Full Bio
ANGELA GARRY has spent half of her working life in educational institutions - three universities, a sixth form college, a secondary school, and a training company working with adults. She is a qualified secondary school mathematics teacher, but found she preferred working in administrative roles, where she found herself delivering a variety of admin training to her colleagues.
In 2010, she started creating networking and training events for Personal Assistants, which led to leaving her role as a Principal's PA to become a self-employed trainer. Despite becoming disabled, Angela has not let this hold her back and has now trained, mentored and coached more than 4,900 PAs, EAs and Admin Assistants in 60 cities worldwide.
Ms Garry is the author of, Brave PAs - The ultimate guide to being outstanding in a tough job, the only professional development book specifically for admins in schools – plus, The PA & EA Circus: Integrating the various parts of the PA, for admins in any organization, and a further 15 books for adults and children.
In her remaining time, Ms Garry edits EDPA, the leading magazine for PAs and Admins in education. She is absolutely passionate about ensuring that PAs and Admins have access to quality resources and professional development opportunities.
2-Day Administrative Assistants Institute: March 30-31
Managing Up - The Essentials for International School PAs, EAs and Admins
This two-day program is designed specifically for international school PAs, EAs and Administrative Staff - to help you to 'manage up' - managing your future career path as well as managing your interactions with those around you, and finding fulfillment in your role. This will enable you to provide better support for the leadership team of your school.
The program will include:
- the PA as Leader - why and how you should be leading your school's admin team.
- talent management - where the role of PA / Admin could be going in the future.
- career progression and change management.
- building confidence / giving yourself permission to find your voice.
- working relationships - improving how you work with your head teacher or manager.
- public speaking / presenting / giving feedback.
- dealing with difficult people, conflict or confrontation.
- event management – top tips to assist in your planning.
- key project management tools and techniques to use in your everyday work.
- group tasks, discussion, networking and sharing expertise and resources with your peers within NESA.
Throughout, we will be looking at increasing the value of PA, EA and Admin staff as ambassadors for your school, ensuring a consistent and high-quality level of support for the leadership team, while creating a more effective interface for parents, pupils and school staff – while retaining your sanity in this ever-changing environment!
Supporting the leadership of an international school is usually an incredibly busy role - and there's often little time (or budget!) to spend on upgrading your skills, increasing your knowledge, sharing expertise with others, or reflecting on where and how your role is progressing. This two-day institute aims to help you do exactly that, while encouraging you to push for better recognition for the administrative profession and molding your role for the future.
