Dr. Connie Buford, A Tribute
April 14, 1944 - January 5, 2022
The international school community is mourning the death of Dr Connie Buford, who passed away January 5 from complications related to leukemia. We at NESA are very saddened by this loss and extend our deepest sympathy to Connie's family.
Connie was a longtime 'Friend of NESA' who frequently attended and presented at NESA conferences, especially during her tenure as Executive Director of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA), 1990-1999.
She was beautiful, whip-smart, and always exuded positive energy and 'light'. And you could hear her and her Southern accent coming a mile away!
One favorite memory we have of Connie is after her time at AISA, she taught a course in Athens and came to visit us at the NESA Center. We knew she’d arrived when this amazing Southern voice shouted, “Honey, I’m home!!"
She was a very special person. We will never forget her smile, laughter and warmth. Her legacy is characterized by an embrace of life, a kindness, a beauty inside and out. She was a gem.
You may post comments and tributes on the AISA webpage. If you'd like to contribute photos, please email with captions (names, where, when) to Peter Bateman: firstname.lastname@example.org
